Wow. This is something we all battle with. I think you, the reader, can probably agree this is one of the biggest struggles we can face today
This is not just any kind of patience, this is patience with God. Especially as Christians, when we know that we aren’t in control, but God is, it makes things harder. We want to be in control, all the time. We wish we could dictate certain things and have decisions made when we want them too. The unfortunate reality, is that this is not the case.
I love Philippians 4:6 ”Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and supplication, present your requests to God, and the peace of God which surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus”
I think that, when we have anxiety, it leads to a lack of patience. If we live lives filled with fear and panic, we won’t ever have peace about anything. Now, the more we live in serenity with God, the more we cast all our anxieties on him, the more patience we have.
Notice Paul writes ”present your requests”. Usually when we are impatient about something, it’s because we have a request waiting to be answered in some way or another. Imagine if you were able to give God all of it, and truly cast it all on him. You’ll find yourself with this unusual peace and unwavering faith, and you’ll trust in Gods plan and schedule.
Casting our anxieties results in less panic and fear
God is our ultimate therapist. He is the best high priest, ever. Hebrews 4:15 says ”15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin.”
I still fight today to remember that God understands my fears and worries. He sees how horrible my situations can be, and yet he is at perfect peace.
I’ve been enduring a time of darkness for the past couple of months. It’s not uncommon, but it is definitely unexplained and confusing. I have gotten frustrated at times, I have gone into panic, fear, and many tears. What I slowly learn each day is that God sees it all, and he knows exactly what I feel. Even when some friends might not know, God does. God has endured it all, and he has also allowed it all, for reasons we don’t know
And this is where the patience aspect kicks in, again. Personally, it has been hard to be patient, but, it goes back to my anxieties. If I keep learning to resist, stand firm in the faith, and give all the worries to God, it is promised that his peace will guard me. When that happens, I will learn to be more patient and trust in his plan.
So, no matter the battle you face today, know this; You’re not alone, and patience is not an easy thing. God knows it, and he wants to help us. Press on, stick close to his word, and hey, ask him to fight your battles for you. Ask him to take the burden and the weight, and deal with it. I pray he works for me and for you. He’s listening, and he’s in perfect peace waiting to bless you in the perfect time.
